Coryphaeus

Cuban National Ballet

(1968 – 1984) Havana, Cuba

 

In 1975 he was promoted to the artistry category ballet dancer Coryphaeus, assuming important roles in various ballets from the repertoire of the company.

 

Between 1968 and 1984, he participated in all the ballets of classical repertoire and neoclassical mounted by Cubans and foreign choreographers. He also participated in all the tours, national and international, with the company.

 

International artistic tours with the Cuban National Ballet: France, Italy, Russia, Bulgaria, Hungary, Spain, Belgium, Luxemburg, Monaco, Portugal, Czechoslovakia, Germany, Switzerland, Netherlands, Finland, Canada, Unite States of America, Mexico, Panama, Nicaragua, Ecuador, Jamaica, Peru, Venezuela and Argentina.

 

Ballet Master and Director of the School

PRODANZA (Centre of Promotion of the Dance)

(1985 – 1998) Havana, Cuba

 

Founder of PRODANZA with Laura Alonso its current director. Together they got involve in the realization of a special artistic training for the young graduates of ballet schools.

Between 1984 and 1998 he was directing the professional ballet school of PRODANZA using a new teaching method based on his thesis grade mention above. He also worked organizing the International Ballet Competition Alicia Alonso and in several Cuban Ballet workshops within the country and in other countries like Brazil, Argentina and Mexico.

 

He participated in the choreographic workshops of 1987 and 1988. One of his works, the ballet “Troca (Exchange)”, was awarded in the dance festival Ballet Bento Gonçalves in Brazil.

He was artistic director of the tours with “La Joven Guardia” of PRODANZA to Nicaragua, Peru and Argentina. “La Joven Guardia” was a group of young guys recently graduated from the National School of Ballet which later became part of the Cuban National Ballet. Among them stood out Jose Manuel Carreño (danced as principal dancer with the American Ballet Theatre), Julio Arozarena (was Ballet Master of Béjart Ballet) and Lorna Feijóo (one of the greatest dancer of her time).

Between 1984 and 1985 Muñiz served as executive director of the magazine PRODANZA.

In 1998 he worked as instructor of Pas de Deux of the professorship of the University of Arts of Cuba.

 

Ballet Master and Artistic Director

Balé da Ilha

(1999 – 2003) Vitoria ES, Brazil

 

He was Artistic Director of the Balé da Ilha, a ballet company that counted with young dancers from Cuba and Brazil. He mounted various fragments of the international classical repertoire and made choreographies like “Pensando em Voz Alta (Thinking aloud)”.

He founded the Balé de Vitoria to answer the needs of the city, giving it a ballet company of high rank in the conditions to carry to the stages ballets of the international repertoire, neoclassicals and the works of Brazilians choreographers as well.

 

Dance Coordinator and Ballet Teacher

Moinho Cultural

(2007) Corumbá MS, Brazil

 

In 2007 he assumed the position of Dace Coordinator of the Moinho Cultural, a project sponsored by Vale do Rio Doce, where more than 200 students with talent for dance and music were selected to receive professional formation.

 

Muñiz has permanently worked in Brazil where has done several mounting of the international ballet repertory and also of his own choreographies in Dance Festivals and Ballet Academies within the country, due to its vast experience.
